The John C. and Jane Colman Program in the Craft of Teaching, Leadership, and Service is the Divinity School’s unique professionalization and certificate program that offers students in-depth training in the art of pedagogy, internship opportunities, and professional skill-building workshops to prepare outstanding leaders who will make an impact in the academic field of religion and in the broader society.

Religion and ________: Teaching Across the “And”
Wednesday, April 30, 11:30 – 1:00 PM
Among the challenges in studying and teaching in the academic study of religion is the push and pull between what is and isn't religion. As a result, many of us approach the problem through syntactic conjunctions: Religion and Sports, Anime and Religion, The Bible and Literature, Buddhism and The Good Life. What does the "and" convey to students? What work should it do in our teaching?

Join the Colman Program for a special workshop with Cooper Harriss (PhD '11), Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Indiana University about "Religion and ______" courses. Participants will hear how the "and" both unites and draws boundaries for students and gain insights into assignments and course structures to both account for and resist undergraduate student expectations. Attendees will also have the opportunity to think through "ands" in their own courses and how to deploy them with greater intentionality. Lunch for pre-registrants provided.
